Director of Athletics at Roanoke from 1971-1977. Martin's personal external professional efforts were many and brought credit to Roanoke College.
Each team was provided with excellent coaches, wide-range schedules, facilities for practice and for games, and the necessary funding for successful undergraduate participation. The intramural athletic programs flourished.
Member of the NCAA Division II Basketball Committee 1974-78, chairman 1976-78. President of the Intercollegiate Athletic Association Steering Committee which formed the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Officiated NCAA Division II Soccer Championships in 1976.
