Guy's success and dominance in the weights events in track and field earned him the nickname "Big Man." Earned letters in both indoor and outdoor track and field and set ODAC records in the indoor shot put and discus. 

Named Roanoke’s Male Athlete of the Year in 1975, Guy was the winner of the Homer Bast Award as outstanding track and field letterman in 1975 along with being honored as the athlete with the highest academic average in 1975.

His class work earned him a prestigious NCAA scholarship award.
