Roanoke College

Newton distinguished himself as a member of the Roanoke golf team.  In 1980, he participated in the 53rd Virginia State PGA Open Golf Tournament.  From 1978-81, he was a member of the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference team and the Virginia Intercollegiate Champion in 1978.  In 1981, he was a first-team All-American. 

He has served on the Board of Directors of the Roanoke Golf Hall of Fame and serves on the Board of the Scott Robertson Memorial Golf Tournament.
