Roanoke College

Hurt earned varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball while at Roanoke.  President of the Monogram Club in 1926, he captained the football team in 1924 and was regarded as one of Roanoke’s greatest fullbacks and quarterbacks.

Played guard on the basketball teams of 1923 and 1924.  Played second base and catcher on baseball squads in 1924 and 1926 

He held the Silver Beaver Award in Scouting. He was a recipient of Freedom Foundation Award and chosen as Roanoke Valley Father of Year in Civic Affairs in 1966.
