Sullivan and Bell earn ODAC Athlete of the Week honors

FOREST, Va. – Roanoke College's Brock Sullivan and Jackson Bell each earned Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Athlete of the Week awards for the week of January 19. Sullivan was named the conference's heavier wrestler of the week, while Bell nabbed the men's basketball defensive player of the week honor.

Sullivan, a freshman from Whispering Pines, N.C. earned two wins in dual action last week, one by fall and one by technical fall. The Maroons, ranked No. 1 in the nation in dual match rankings, defeated both Shenandoah and Marymount Universities handily.

Sullivan downed Jack Birth from SU by pin in 4:18 Thursday and followed up with a 16-1 technical fall victory in 4:34 over Dennis Meza Velasquez from MU Sunday.

Bell, a junior guard from Roswell, Ga., had success last week on both sides of the ball. He led the Maroons to two important ODAC victories over Hampden-Sydney College and Virginia Wesleyan University. He had his first career double double against the Tigers Wednesday night with 17 points and 10 rebounds and nearly duplicated that effort Saturday with 17 points and nine boards at VWU. Bell added four assists and two steals for the week and all but one of Bell's rebounds was on the defensive end. The Maroons held the two strong ODAC opponents to just 111 combined points in a pair of RC victories.
