The Short story: The Roanoke College men's basketball team had several chances to pull off a last second victory Saturday, but Washington & Lee University survived to upset the Maroons 58-57 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup.
The Generals opened the late one-point lead after a layup by Bryce Breeden with 18 seconds left. The Maroons couldn't convert on three attempts in the closing seconds and time expired to give W&L the win.
How it happened:
*The Maroons held a small lead nearly the entire first half and entered intermission ahead 30-29.
*The second half was just as tightly contested, with neither team able to gain more than a six-point edge.

Caleb Franze made one of two free throws with 34 seconds left to give RC a 57-56 lead before Breeden's basket and the late General defensive stop.

Gavin O'Malley paced Roanoke with 17 points and six rebounds.

Marcus Morgan recorded a double double of 11 points and 10 rebounds while
Porter Stanley had 10 points and five rebounds.

*Connor Amorosi scored a game-high 18 for the Generals (11-2/3-1).
