The Short story: The Roanoke College men's basketball team broke open a close game late to pull away for a 62-47 victory over visiting Hampden-Sydney College Wednesday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
Both teams received votes this week in the D3hoops.com top 25 poll. Roanoke's defense forced H-SC into shooting just 13 percent from behind the three-point arc (3-23).
How it happened:
*The Maroons used 10-0 and 11-0 runs to take a 26-11 lead with under four minutes left in the first half.
*RC took a 28-19 edge into halftime.
*Roanoke kept the advantage for the whole second half and blew the game open with a 9-0 surge with under five minutes to play.
Inside the numbers:
*Junior
Jackson Bell earned the first double double of his career, scoring 17 points with 10 rebounds and four assists.
*
Caleb Franze had 11 points and
Marcus Morgan finished with eight points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.
*
Ryan Truitt had seven points and
Grant Hamilton posted six.
*Travis Stickney paced Hampden-Sydney (9-5/3-2) with 14 points and 11 boards.
