The Short story: Â The seventh-seeded Roanoke College softball team split a pair of games Sunday in the first day of play at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament, hosted at the Moyer Complex.
Maggie McCray broke the ODAC single-game record with 20 strikeouts and
Leah Butts drove in four runs as the Maroons outlasted No. 2 Bridgewater College 6-4 in 11 innings in the first game. Randolph-Macon upended the Maroons 3-0 in the second game.

How it happened (Game 1 vs. Bridgewater):
*The Maroons went ahead 1-0 in the second inning.
Haleigh Vaughan led off with a triple to centerfield, and came home one out later on a Butts' suicide squeeze.
*The Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the third, taking advantage of a Maroon miscue.
*McCray struck out nine consecutive batters from the fifth to the seventh inning.
*Starting in the 10th inning, a runner was placed at second base to open the frame. In the top of the 10
th,Â
Erin Gorschboth successfully sacrificed the runner to third and beat the throw to first.
Adriana Rivera hit a sacrifice fly to plate the go-ahead run, but Bridgewater countered with an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th. Â Â

Carsyn Michaels belted an RBI triple and Butts ripped a three-run double in the 11th to put the Maroons ahead 6-2. The Eagles rallied for two in the bottom of the inning but McCray got out of the jam to seal the win.

Inside the numbers (Game 1 vs. Bridgewater):
*McCray tossed 171 pitches in the contest, and allowed just three hits, three walks and one unearned run to move her record to 12-7.
*Butts had four RBI and Michaels had two hits.
*Vaughan had a hit and a walk.
*Mackenzie Cauthorn pitched a complete game for Bridgewater, allowing four earned runs while striking out eight.

How it happened (Game 2 vs. Randolph-Macon):
*The Yellow Jackets scored one in the third and followed up with two in the fourth to go ahead 3-0.
*Roanoke left one runner on base in the first, second and fourth innings and two in the third and fifth frames.

*Michaels went 2-3 with a double and
Kassidy Lancos also had two hits with a stolen base. Â

Baylee Compton tossed 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing no runs, hits or walks while striking out two.
Gracie Ellis threw a complete-game shutout for R-MC, allowing six hits and no walks while striking out four.
Up Next:
Roanoke (21-21) will play Bridgewater at 1 p.m. Monday in an elimination game, with the winner advancing to play R-MC at 4 p.m.
