The Short story: The Roanoke College softball team was just three outs away from a victory in the first game of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament Friday, but the University of Lynchburg rallied for a 3-2 walk-off win.
Roanoke (20-19) will face Guilford College Saturday at 2 p.m. in an elimination game, with the winner advancing to play again at 5 p.m.
How it happened:
*The Maroons got on the scoreboard first in the second inning, as
Carsyn Michaels hit an RBI groundout to plate
Heather McQueeney.
*The Hornets tied the game in the bottom of the second and the game remained 1-1 until the fifth.
*Michaels doubled to again bring home McQueeney and put RC ahead 2-1, but the Maroons had a runner thrown out at home later in the fifth.
*Lynchburg scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh, and Sarah Watts hit an RBI walk-off single. Â Â

Claire Warden threw a gem in the circle, allowing just one earned run in her six innings, allowing just six hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
*McQueeney was 2-3 with a walk and a stolen base.
*Kate Charlton earned the complete-game victory for the Hornets (25-16).
