Men's Track and Field

Maroons Excel at Bast-Cregger Invitational

The Basics
Event: Bast-Cregger Multi Invitational
Location: Salem, Va. | Cregger Field House
The Lead: Elias Ammon won the 800m, and the Roanoke men's track & field team also notched four runner-up performances at the squad's second home event of the indoor campaign.

Highlights:
  • Ammon registered a time of 1:58.58 to cross the tape first in the 800m, currently the fifth-fastest mark in the ODAC and the 12th-best in the NCAA South Region this winter. Adrian Shiguango-Holtz placed eighth in the event at 2:04.50.
  • Jim Sarsfield broke his own school record in the weight throw with a distance of 16.55m, eclipsing the mark of 15.95m that he set at the Liberty Kickoff event in December. He placed second overall and first among Division III competitors, and he now ranks second in the conference and fourth in the region.
  • Brady Fowler came in second in the 200m, finishing 0.01 off the top spot with a mark of 22.13 seconds. That time leads the ODAC while ranking second in the region and 18th in the country. Amari Carter placed 14th at 22.98 seconds.
  • In the 3,000m, Seth Perry placed second overall with a time of 8:51.04, and Matt Garis came in fourth in 8:54.55. Those times are slotted third and sixth, respectively, in program history.
  • Roanoke also snared the runner-up spot in the 4x400, where Carter, Bryson Hill, Brandon Heffinger and Lorenzo Camobreco clocked in at 3:31.23, which ranks fourth in the conference and sixth in the region. The Maroons' "B" team of Ammon, Shiguango-Holtz, Andrew Estes and Jackson Coombes placed fifth in 3:34.41.
  • Fowler also finished fourth in the 60m with a mark of 6.91 seconds. Carter just missed out on qualifying for the finals with a time of 6.95 seconds in his semifinal heat, placing ninth.
  • In the mile, Coombes clocked a personal-record time of 4:32.68 to place fourth overall.
  • Cody Roupe finished fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.87m.
  • Dominic McCombs landed in sixth place in the pole vault with a jump of 4.00m.
  • Davis Neel logged a time of 9.27 seconds in the prelims of the 60m hurdles, narrowly missing out on the finals.
  • Sarsfield was also the 16th-place finisher in the shot put, and his toss of 12.82m ranks eighth in the ODAC this season and sixth in school history.
  • Trey Tomlinson came in 19th in the triple jump with a distance of 11.71m.
Up Next: The Maroons will travel to Lynchburg for the Liberty Open next weekend.
