FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has announced its all-conference honors for the outdoor track & field season, and two members of the Roanoke program received recognition with major awards.
On the women's side,
Ophelia Ladner was named ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year, sharing the honor with Camille Gillum from Washington and Lee. Ladner also won the award in 2025.
Meanwhile,
DeShawn Austin represented the men's team by earning Rookie of the Year laurels.
At last weekend's ODAC outdoor championships in Harrisonburg, Va., Ladner defended her 2025 title in the 400m hurdles, winning the event in 1:03.33. She also placed sixth in the finals of the 100m hurdles, clocking in at 16.39 seconds, and she was part of the all-conference 4x100 relay team that came in second in 47.63 seconds, as well as the 4x400 relay team that finished sixth in 4:20.20.
Austin was involved in two event wins and three total All-ODAC performances at his first outdoor conference championships. He set a meet record in the prelims of the 400m hurdles, registering a time of 52.95 seconds, and he went on to take first in the finals with a mark of 53.40. Austin was also part of the victorious 4x400 relay team (3:17.91), and he landed as the runner-up in the long jump with a distance of 7.18m.
The Maroons are in action this weekend at the Hill City Twilight at Lynchburg, one of several late-season events leading up to the selections for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships on Friday, May 15. The national meet will take place in La Crosse, Wisc. from May 21-23.
