Maroons Set School Records, Win Multiple Events at Finn Pincus Invite

The Basics
Event: Finn Pincus Invitational
Location: Salem, Va. | Cregger Field House
The Lead: The men's track & field team shattered multiple school records and claimed three first-place finishes at the first home event of the indoor season.
 
Highlights:
  • Elias Ammon established new school records and finished first in two events, recording victorious times of 1:24.16 in the 600m and 2:33.85 in the 1,000m.
  • Roanoke also won the distance medley relay, as Seth Perry, Brandon Heffinger, Adrian Shiguango-Holtz and Ian Fellows clocked in at 10:38.35. That time ranks third in program history and currently leads the NCAA South Region. The Maroons' "B" team of Gabe Ramirez, George Davis, Jackson Coombes and Sam Brasler placed fourth in 11:19.98.
  • Dominic McCombs set a new Roanoke record in the pole vault, recording a mark of 4.31m to place seventh overall.
  • Matt Garis was the runner-up in the 5,000m, notching a personal-record time of 15:33.63 that ranks second in Maroons' annals. Five teammates joined him in the top 11: Josh Woodley in sixth (16:52.28), Garrett Weaver in seventh (16:52.28), Levi Counts in ninth (17:02.26), Kellen Bishop in 10th (17:16.08) and Trevor Adamson in 11th (17:22.03).
  • Ian Fellows placed second in the mile run with a personal-best time of 4:26.43, which ranks sixth in program history. Perry came in sixth in 4:31.30, followed by Ramirez in 15th (4:41.88) and Brasler in 19th (4:42.96).
  • In the high jump, Cody Roupe placed third overall with a personal-record height of 1.93m. That mark has him ranked third in both the ODAC and the South Region.
  • Beyond Ammon's performance in the 1,000m, Shiguango-Holtz came in fourth in 2:43.10, while Coombes clocked in at 2:45.92 for seventh place.
  • Brady Fowler clocked a time of 6.95 seconds to finish sixth in the preliminary rounds of the 60m. Amari Carter placed ninth in the semifinals at 6.94 seconds, with Fowler landing in 12th at 6.96. Seven of the eight runners who qualified for the finals were Division II competitors. Carter and Fowler currently rank second and third regionally in the event.
  • In the 4x400 relay, the Maroons' quartet of Perry, Fellows, Shiguango-Holtz and Coombes landed in seventh place with a time of 3:40.75.
  • Jim Sarsfield placed ninth in the weight throw with a mark of 14.72m.
  • Ammon also had company in the top 10 of the 600m, as Andrew Estes logged a ninth-place run of 1:29.37.
  • Brasler finished 10th in the 800m with a time of 2:11.84.
Up Next: The Maroons will compete at the VMI Invitational in Lexington next Friday and Saturday.
