SALEM --- The Roanoke College Softball team won their final two games of the Roanoke Valley Softball Bash on Sunday hosted by Ferrum College at the Moyer Complex. The Maroons finished with a 6-0 mark over the three-day tournament. RC improves to 11-3 on the season and is riding a seven-game winning–streak.
In the first game on Sunday, the Maroons defeated Castleton St. 10-2. With the score, 5-0 in the sixth, Roanoke turned the lights out with a five-run inning that would eventually end the game do to the run rule.
Seven Maroons enjoyed a multi-hit game, led by freshman
Kaci Frick with three. She, along with
Alea Bier and
Leona Rainey, scored twice in the contest. The Maroons collected 16 hits in the contest.
Stephanie Clark provided most of the offense, going 2-for-3 with an RBI-double in the fifth inning and a two-run homer in the third to give the women a comfortable advantage. She finished with a season-best four RBI for the game.
Rainey put the Maroons on the board early in the first inning as she singled, stole second and scored off an RBI-single from
Hollee Warlitner. Frick hit her first collegiate home run in the fourth inning to make it, 4-0 as the Maroons started to pull away.
Kelly Higbie (10-3) threw her 13
th complete game, as she finished with seven strikeouts and allowed only one walk while scattering four hits.
In the final game of the three-day tournament, Roanoke topped Hunter College, 6-0 in the first seven-inning game of the weekend for Roanoke. Rainey finished 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs scored to lead the Maroons.

Katherine Kouri who opened with a walk. Bier and Rainey each scored off a Warlitner two-RBI single to make it 3-0.
In the fourth, the Maroons tacked on three more runs to spread the game open.
Alexis Roop singled and advanced to second off an error to bring up
Rhea Schleicher. The freshman belted a two-run homer to make it, 5-0. Rainey reached base with a single and stole second which put her in scoring position. Bier drove her home off an RBI-double to end the scoring.
Kelly Higbie (11-3) threw her 14
th complete game in the victory, which moves her into a tie for sixth on the single-season list in that category at Roanoke. She finished with seven strikeouts on the afternoon.
The women will be off until Wednesday, March 21 as they travel to Greensboro, NC to take on Guilford in their ODAC-opener. The doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m.
