The Short Story: The Roanoke College women's soccer team took an early two-goal lead Friday against Meredith College and cruised to a 2-0 win in the first game of the Shellenberger Classic, hosted by the University of Lynchburg.

How it happened:
*Freshman Ava Walker took a feed from Kacee Schmidt and fired it into the left corner of the net for her first collegiate goal less than eight minutes into play.
*Lauren Fisher converted on a penalty kick at 17:46 to give the Maroons a two-goal edge, and RC went into intermission ahead 2-0.  

Inside the numbers:
*Roanoke dominated the shot (25-4) and corner kick categories (8-2).
*Grace Suchy notched two saves to pickup the shutout victory.
*Samantha Woodfin made 10 stops for the Avenging Angels.

Up Next:
The Maroons (1-2) will conclude competition in the Shellenberger Classic Saturday against Jersey City at 4 p.m.
