The Short Story: Sophomore Adrianna Cortez scored the game's only goal Saturday as the Roanoke College women's soccer team defeated Jersey City 1-0 at the Shellenberger Classic, hosted by the University of Lynchburg.

The Maroons won both of their games at the Shellenberger Classic this weekend to even their record at 2-2 for the season.

How it happened:
*The Maroons struck just 6:28 into the contest. Ava Walker delivered a pass through the middle of the defense that Cortez corralled and slid into the left corner of the goal.

*Roanoke held a 15-6 edge in shots and a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
*Grace Suchy picked up her second-straight shutout, making two saves.
*Lorraine Valenzuela made eight saves for the Gothic Knights (3-2).
