Roanoke Splits With Hornets

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Score: #10 Roanoke 4 | Lynchburg 2

Records: Maroons 18-7 / 4-3 ODAC | Hornets 16-15 / 6-3 ODAC

The Lead: The weather forced Roanoke to postpone their mid-week double header, so the Maroons traveled to Lynchburg to face the Hornets having not played in a week. Roanoke raced out to an early lead in the opening game with a pair of 2-run home runs on their way to a 4-2 win. Game two would see a Roanoke rally give the Maroons a 4-3 lead. However, the Hornets would re-rally scoring two in the fifth and two more in the sixth on their way to a 7-4 split.

Highlights:

  • Jordyn DiFava singled ahead of a two-out, two-run home run by Rachel Sirbaugh in the top of the first.
  • Lynchburg got one back in the bottom of the second bringing Roanoke to the plate in the top of the third. DiFava singled up the middle and scored on a Shanan Hester home run to deep left as the Maroons pushed their lead to 4-1.
  • Katelyn Craghead opened the sixth inning with a base hit to right field. Madison Courts had a single and the duo advanced on a wild pitch. However, Roanoke was unable to add to it's lead and the game went into the bottom half.
  • Lynchburg was able to cut into the Roanoke lead in the bottom half as the Maroons took a 4-2 edge into the final inning.
  • Jada Karnes allowed a free pass before inducing a lineout to seal the win. Karnes won her 13th game of the season with a complete game, seven hit, two run, three strikeout effort.
  • Hester and Sirbaugh provided all the offense that Roanoke needed with two-run home runs. DiFava and Kate Houle each finished 2-4.
