Game 1

Score: Roanoke 7 | Ferrum 5
Records: Maroons 14-7 / 7-4 ODAC | Panthers 14-19 / 5-10 ODAC
Location: Ferrum, Va.

The Lead: After falling to Lynchburg in a pair of one-run games last night, Roanoke traveled to Ferrum for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) double header. The opening game would see the Maroons race out to a 6-2 advantage and held on for the 7-5 win. Roanoke would need a three-run rally in the top of the sixth to complete the comeback for the 9-8 series sweeping win.

How it Happened:

  • After giving up a first inning run, Roanoke would come back for four runs in the top of the second to take the lead.
  • Starting pitcher Jada Karnes would score on a Jordyn DiFava base hit. Kate Houle hit a double to right field to bring home Makayla Austin and DiFava. A Lauryn Chappell double down the left field line would give the Maroons a 4-1 edge.
  • Austin doubled to plate Karnes in the third and in the fourth, Rebecca Hensley scored on a Shanan Hester double to make it 6-1.
  • Individual runs by the Panthers over the next three innings would cut the RC lead to 6-4 heading into the seventh.
  • Roanoke added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Rachel Sirbaugh walked and advanced to third on a Karnes single. Karnes was pinch run for by Morgan Clark and when Clark stole second, Sirbaugh scored on a throwing error.
  • Karnes picked up her 10th win of the season with a complete game, recording five strikeouts. In addition to the win, Karnes enjoyed a three hit game matching Austin with both Maroons going 3-4.

The Basics
Game 2

Records: Maroons 15-7 / 8-4 ODAC | Panthers 14-20 / 5-11 ODAC
Location: Ferrum, Va.

How it Happened:

  • Ferrum would once again score first and add a second run one inning later.
  • Meagen Evans homered to left center to cut the lead in half. Sammie Murphy singled to center and advanced on a sacrifice bunt. A Hester base hit would tie the score at 2-2.
  • The Panthers would re-take the lead with five runs in the bottom half of the third inning.
  • Doubles by Houle and DiFava in the fourth inning would trim the deficit and one inning later, Hester and Houle would add a pair of solo home runs to cut the Ferrum lead to 7-6.
  • The top of the sixth would see Roanoke complete the comeback and take their first lead of the game. Hensley, Brooke Trapuzzano, and Hester all drove in runs to put Roanoke in front 9-7.
  • Ferrum would hit a home run in the bottom half to cut the RC lead to one. Evans would record the final three outs as Roanoke picked up the one-run win in game two.
  • Evans pitched four and a third innings in relief, earning the win while giving up just two hits and one run. Roanoke would total 14 hits, two each by six different Maroons. Hester had three RBI and one of RC's three home runs.
