Location: Salem, Va.

The Lead: Roanoke College kicked off the 2021 season by hosting the, six game, three team, Mountain Mash tournament at the Moyer Complex. The Maroons jumped out to an early lead on the visiting Bulldogs and held on for a 3-2 season opening win over Adrian.

  • Rebecca Hensley led off the bottom half with an infield single in advance of Brooke Trapuzzano being hit by a pitch. Jordyn DiFava bunted to advance the runners. Rachel Sirbaugh plated a pair with a single to center.
  • The Maroons would add a third run after Janae Henry singled and stole second before advancing to third on a ground out. Emma Eccles made it 3-1 with an RBI single.
  • Despite giving up a run in the top of the seventh, RC held on to record the last out and pick up their first win of the season.
  • Jada Karnes went the distance giving up eight hits while recording eight strikeouts. Hensely was a perfect 3-3 with a run scored.
