SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke scored the first four goals and never looked back in a 17-10 victory over Ursinus College at Kerr Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The Maroons improved to 4-0 while the Bears slip to 3-1.
In their first meeting since 2006, the Maroons are now 3-0 against the Bears. Roanoke is 31-12 against schools from Pennsylvania. RC has won 11 of its last 12 and are 36-8 all-time mark in home-openers.
For the second time this season,
Richard Lachlan scored the first three goals of the game as Roanoke raced out to a commanding 4-0 advantage. He tallied a game-best six goals for the day.
The Maroons extended their lead slowly to seven as Lachlan started the second half with back-to-back goals to make it 10-3. Ursinus answered with back-to-back goals of their own to keep the game within reach.
With the score, 10-5 midway through the third quarter, Roanoke went on a run to pull away for good. Six different Maroons scored in a span of 10-minutes to make it, 16-5 with 13:13 left to play.
Roanoke out-shot Ursinus, 47-27 and held a 53-33 groundball advantage over the Bears. The Maroons were 18-of-19 on clear attempts for the day while winning 17-of-30 face-offs, including 13-of-17 in the second half.
Joey Coretti had three goals and an assist while
Noah Gibby netted a goal and dished out two assists.
Trey Keeley added two goals and two assists to move into 30
th on the career scoring list (111pts) as
Jeff Keating finished with two goals to move him into 26
th on the career scoring list (123pts).
Justin Tuma became the 44
th player at Roanoke to score over 100 career points and moved into 38
th on the career list with 105 points. He won 12-of-18 face-offs and collected 12 groundballs to move into fourth all-time in that category.
Drew Manley and
Alex Burkhead led the Maroons defensively this afternoon. Manley totaled a team-best seven caused turnovers and four groundballs while Burkhead had six caused turnovers and five groundballs.
Eric DeLong got in the mix with four groundballs and three caused turnovers on the day.

Bill Pilat was able to play all of five of his goalies, with
Mike Hardon picking up the win with five saves.
Charles Pease collected two saves in goal for the Maroons.
Jeff Ocampo had four goals and an assist to lead UC. Tom Adelsberger had 10 groundballs and five caused turnovers while Shawn Caven won 13-of-28 face-offs and collected nine groundballs. Josh Baker finished with 15 saves in goal for the Bears.
The men return to action this Saturday as they travel to Carlisle, PA to take on #11 Dickinson in non-conference action. The Red Devils defeated the Maroons, 7-6 last spring, but RC holds a slim 4-2 series advantage. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
