The Lead: Roanoke scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally past non-conference rival Ferrum 7-5 on Wednesday afternoon in Salem.
How it Happened:- Down 1-0 in the third inning, Roanoke got on the board when Lucas Nowlin was hit by a pitch to start the inning; he then stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Sean Guida then drove in Nowlin with a single to make it 1-1.
- Roanoke took a 3-1 lead when Will Black scored following an error by the Ferrum pitcher before Guida walked with the bases loaded later in the inning to drive across Dean Hermanson.
- The Panthers scored four runs in the top of the sixth-inning when it strung together three hits and took advantage of a RC error in the field.
- With RC down 5-3 in the eighth, Scott Ellis singled to start the inning and then advanced all the way around the bases on three-straight wild pitches to cut the score to 5-4.
- After back-to-back walks by Hermanson and Drew Mikula, a single by Ross Strickland would score Hermanson to tie the game up at 5-5.
- Roanoke would get the bases loaded in that same inning and Will Decker would hit a two-RBI single up the middle to score Strickland and Cody Shell to give the Maroons a 7-5 lead.
- Ethan Delahunty would pick up his first win of the year after throwing scoreless eighth and ninth inning frames.
- Offensively, Decker led the Maroons after going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and two stolen bases. Jack Howard also had a multi-hit game by going 2-for-3 at the plate and Sean Guida was 1-for-2 with two RBI and a walk.
- As a team, Roanoke recorded 11 hits and stole six bases on the afternoon.
