The Lead: Roanoke College started its weekend series with Greensboro at English Field on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. The Maroons improved to 4-1 after beating the Pride 8-4 in the single contest.
How it Happened:- Roanoke struck first in the third inning after an RBI single by Kevin Oakey drove in Will Decker who reached on an error.
- In the top of the sixth, Greensboro rallied to score all four of its runs in that inning.
- The Maroons rallied themselves in the sixth as a Dan Irwin walk would start off the bottom of the inning. Collier Donald drove him in with a double on the next at bat.
- Ross Strickland drove in Donald with a single of his own. On the next at bat, Will Black was hit by a pitch and a two-RBI triple by Decker then drove in Black and Strickland to make the score 4-4 in Roanoke's favor.
- Clark Crutchfield pinch hit for Oakey with one out in the inning and hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Decker. This capped a five-run surge that gave RC a 6-4 lead.
- The Maroons added two more insurance runs in the seventh inning after a leadoff double by Irwin. Anthony Teixiera provided a double of his own in the next at bat, and an error later in the inning would drive him in to make the score the eventual 8-4 outcome.
- Irwin led the Maroons at the plate after going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one walk, and two runs scored. Decker also scored twice and had a triple at the plate
- Harrison Richards started on the mound for Roanoke and went 5.1 innings while striking out six. Diego Meneses was able to pick up his first win of the season in relief after throwing 1.2 innings and Craig Kiley threw scoreless eighth and ninth inning to help give RC the win.
