Men's Lacrosse Wins Home Opener against Kenyon, 13-5 on Saturday Afternoon

Box Score SALEM - The #11 ranked Roanoke College men's lacrosse team defeated Kenyon College 13-5 in the Maroons home opener of the season. Roanoke now has a record of 1-1, while the Lords of Kenyon College are now 0-2

Richard Lachlan led the Maroons in scoring with six goals. With his six goals today, Lachlan moves into sixth place all-time in goals scored at Roanoke with 143, passing Brett Smith '94 and Zach Thomas '09. He needs just three more goals to move into fourth all-time. Lachlan was followed in scoring by Tyler McWilliams and Mike Hayden who had two goals each. Hayden also led all players in assists with four on the afternoon. McWilliams had a team-high five ground balls on during the contest.

The Maroons took control of the contest early on, as McWilliams scored an unassisted goal in the first 2:30 of the game. At the 7:23 mark, Mike Hayden netted a goal of his own to give the Maroons a 2-0 lead. Roanoke found the back of the net twice more in the first, with the combination of Mike Hayden to Richard Lachlan for the goal, giving the Maroons a 4-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Kenyon found their footing in the second quarter, as Trey Trudell and Justin Coleman scored man-up goals against the Maroons. Conner DuBois netted a goal at the 7:50 mark as well, as Roanoke ended the first 30 minutes with a 5-2 lead.

Kenyon and Roanoke traded a pair of goals each in the opening of the second half. Will Lowe and Justin Sheehan scored for the Lords, while Lachlan picked up his third and fourth goal of the game, maintaining Roanoke's three goal, 7-4 lead. Roanoke spouted off four more goals through the 1:46 mark, including a man-up goal by Will Pilat, and a man-down goal by Mike Hayden, extending Roanoke's lead to seven, 11-4. Kenyon's Lowe netted a goal at 1:16, to end the third period with Roanoke leading 11-5. In the fourth quarter, Roanoke only scored two goals, both coming from Lachlan, as Roanoke won the home-opener 13-5 on Saturday.

Will Lowe led the Lords in scoring with two goals, while Justin Coleman, Trey Trudell and Justin Sheehan had one each. Chris Pappalardo had a team high two assists.

Roanoke outshot Kenyon 51-28 on the afternoon, and held the advantage in ground balls 31-28. The Lords won more faceoffs than the Maroons (15-7), and had more saves (13-10).

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, March 6th as they travel to Stevenson, MD to face off against Stevenson University, who is ranked #3 in the USILA Preseason Poll. That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
