EMORY, Va--- Roanoke cruised past Emory & Henry, 86-46 at the King Center on Bob Johnson Court Saturday afternoon. The Maroons improved to 3-1, 2-0 in ODAC play, while the Wasps fell to 1-4, 0-3 in the conference.
Roanoke used hot shooting and stifling defense throughout the contest to roll to victory. The women shot 57% from the field, 64% from three point range and held their opponent to 25% shooing from the field, 12% from behind the arc. They also held a 46-33 edge in rebounding.
Kendra Porter (Jamestown, NC, Dudley) led three Maroons in double figures, finishing with a career-best 15 points in addition to five rebounds and season-high five steals.
Roanoke jumped out to a 45-27 lead at the end of the first half before really turning it on in the final period. The women outscored Emory & Henry, 41-19 in the second stanza.
Jo Beth Wright paced the Wasps with 10 points. Jalen McPherson added six points and 10 rebounds.
Jordan Gholson (Louisa, VA, Louisa County) chipped in 14 points and five rebounds while
Nicci Moats (Blue Ridge, VA, Lord Botetourt) contributed 12 points and team-highs of seven rebounds and five blocks.
Morgan Lazenby (Salem, VA, Glenvar) scored a season-high nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from downtown.
The women return to action Tuesday, December 7th when they host Guilford in an ODAC match-up. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
