SALEM, Va--- Roanoke defeated Randolph-Macon, 6-1 in the quarterfinals of the ODAC tournament Saturday afternoon at Kerr Stadium. The Maroons improved to 13-3-3 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 6-8-3 to end the season.
After finishing the regular season undefeated in ODAC play, the women moved into a tie for sixth place for wins in a single-season with 13. They have now won six of the past seven meetings against RMC.
Three-time all-region selection
Jessica Welfare (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley) got the Maroons off to an early lead when she headed in a corner from
Rebekah Adams (Springfield, VA, West Springfield), just five minutes into play.
With 15 minutes remaining in the first half,
Sarah Bradley (Richmond, VA, Deep Run) found Adams on a cross to send the Maroons into the half with a two-goal advantage. The assist was Bradley's team-high sixth of the year.
Roanoke poured it on in the second half, scoring four goals.
Carmen Graves (Christiansburg, VA, Christiansburg) got the scoring started when she punched in a pass from Welfare ten minutes in.
Six minutes later, Amanda Nelms countered for RMC on a breakaway goal that slid past the keeper.
The Maroons then scored three goals in three minutes.
Stephanie Parenteau (Virginia Beach, VA, Kellam) finished on a breakaway of her own in the 86
th minute. A minute later,
Brianna Quintiliani (Norwood, MA, Norwood) banked in a shot off the top of the post for her first collegiate goal. Parenteau then scored her second of the night and her team-best 11
th goal of the year, giving her three multi-goal games on the season.
Adams led the Maroons with 11 shots, six on goal. Graves finished with six shots, four on goal, and Parenteau put three shots on the keeper.
Lindsay Kooiman (Fredricksburg, VA, Mountain View) picked up the win for Roanoke, collecting three shots on the contest, while China Bradley took the loss in goal for Randolph-Macon, picking up 10 saves on the evening.
The Maroons outshot the Yellow Jackets 26-4, including a 16-4 edge in shots on goal. They also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The women will return to action Tuesday November 2, as they host Virginia Wesleyan in the ODAC Semifinals. The match is set for a 5:00 p,m. start time.
