Box Score The Maroons defeated Emory & Henry, 81-51 at the Bast Center on Tuesday evening. The Maroons, who won their fourth-straight, improved to 8-7 overall and 6-4 in ODAC play. The Wasps dropped to 4-9, 3-6 in the ODAC. It was the second time all season that the Maroons have scored over 80 points.
Sophomore
Caitlyn Long poured in a season-high 23 points with career-highs of seven rebounds, five three-pointers and four steals in the victory. She shot 8-of-12 from the floor, including 5-of-6 from three-point range. She now has 58 three-pointers for her career, placing her 10
th all-time at Roanoke.
Senior
Sara Keller had a career-high 17 points in her seventh start of the season, shooting 7-of-7 from the free throw line along with four rebounds.
The Maroons shot 46-percent for the game, including 50-percent in the second half and 8-16 from three-point range. They hit 81-percent from the free throw line. The Maroons defense held the Wasps to 31-percent for the game, 20-percent in the second half.
The Maroons out rebounded the Wasps, 45-27 in their largest rebounding margin of the season. They also had 20-plus assists for the third time this season and third in the last four games. They also had 15 steals in the Maroons sixth ODAC victory.
The Maroons jumped out to a 44-32 halftime lead and never looked back. They shot 44-percent from the floor, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc with guards
Torri Bridge and Long with two apiece.
The Wasps tied the game at nine apiece after a Baylie Snyder lay-up with 14:43 remaining in the first half. From there the Maroons went on a 22-2 run over the next eight minutes to take a comfortable 20-point lead, 31-11.
Emory & Henry closed its deficit to within 12, ending the half with an 8-2 run in the final two minutes.
The Maroons opened the second half with a 14-0 run to extend their lead to 26, 58-32 at the 16-minute mark and coasted the rest of the way to their eighth victory. They are over .500 for the first time since the holiday break (Dec. 29).
The Maroons scored 21 points off 24 forced turnovers. They outscored Emory & Henry, 26-14 in the paint while the Wasps outscored the Roanoke bench, 24-13.
Sophomore
Jaleesa Osborne scored 12 points with five rebounds and five steals. Bridge finished with eight points and six assists. In the last three games, Bridge has 20 assists to just six turnovers and has averaged six assists in the last five games.
Jordan Gholson, who scored eight points, seven rebounds and two blocks, moved into seventh in the single-season blocked shots record with 30.
The women are back in action this weekend as they travel to both Randolph-Macon (Fri.) and Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday on Jan. 25-26.
