Box Score SALEM, VA- The Roanoke College women's basketball team held visiting Emory & Henry College scoreless for an eight minute stretch in the first half, led 41-15 at halftime, and cruised to a 73-60 win on Tuesday in Salem, VA. The Maroons improve to 11-10 on the season and 9-7 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Emory & Henry falls to 7-15, 3-14 in league action.
Ahead 13-8 with 12:39 left in the first half, the Maroon defense held Emory & Henry with out a point until 3:28 was left on the clock. In the meantime, the Maroons scored 18 of their own points and by the time the Wasps got on the board again Roanoke led by 23 points, 31-8. The Maroons took a 26-point lead at the break after freshman
Lindsay Skaff collected an offensive rebound and hit a 15-foot jumper as time expired in the opening 20 minutes. Roanoke's halftime lead was 41-15.
The Maroons held the Wasps to just six first half field goals, on 26 attempts, and forced 14 E&H turnovers. The Maroons had just five first half turnovers and got 10 steals in the opening frame, five coming from freshman
Jaleesa Osborne.
The Maroon lead got out to as many as 28 points early in the second half, but the Wasps battled back and on a Baylie Snyder three with 1:13 left in the game had trimmed Roanoke's lead to just 12, 70-58. The Wasps made eight of their first 11 shots from the field in the second half and totaled 17 makes on 32 attempts over the final 20 minutes.
Erin Hanson was the lone Maroon to score in double-figures, getting 22 in just 23 minutes of action. Skaff finished the game with six points,
Courtney Long seven points and
Sara Keller six rebounds. Snyder scored 16 to pace the Wasps.
Roanoke is back in action on Saturday in a home game against the Quakers of Guilford College. The game in Salem, VA begins at 2:00pm.
