HANSON'S 34 POINTS LIFTS MAROONS TO 59-56 ROAD WIN

Box Score EMORY, VA- Behind a career-high 34-point scoring effort from junior Erin Hanson, the third best number in school history, the Roanoke College women's basketball team defeated Emory & Henry 59-56 on Tuesday in Emory, VA. The Maroons improve to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Wasps fall to 6-8 overall and 2-7 in the ODAC. The win was also the 490th in the head coaching career of Susan Dunagan, who is looking to become just the seventh coach in Division III with 500 victories.

Hanson's scoring effort tied the third best mark in team history, a mark that was originally set in 1994 by Roanoke Hall of Famer Crystal Wilson. The best scoring game in team history is a 49-point game by Susan Highfill in 1977. On Tuesday, Hanson scored her 34 points by making 11 of her 22 shots from the field, including six of her eight shots from three-point range. Her six three-pointers were the most by a Roanoke player since Katrina Williams made six in a game against the same Wasp team on January 28, 2003. With 15 rebounds, Hanson also had her ninth double-double of the year.

Ahead by as many as 17 points in the first half of play, the Maroons led by 10 points, on the sixth of Hanson's threes, with 6:01 left in the contest. That would be, however, Roanoke's last basket of the game. On a five-plus minute scoring slump, the Maroons allowed the Wasps back in the game. Kathryn Brandt scored in the paint and Kiyett Brown hit a three-pointer with 4:49 left to trim Roanoke's lead to 57-52.

With 1:50 left in the game, Brandt made both ends of a one-and-one and Roanoke led 57-54. After a Roanoke miss on the offensive end, the Wasps came to within one point on a Lauren Habel drive and basket. Aside from Hanson's 34-point effort, the Maroons got their most valuable contribution of the game on the next offensive possession. After three straight missed shots, junior Sara Keller collected three straight offensive rebounds, rebounds that allowed the Maroons to take all but 15 seconds off the clock.

After Keller's third rebound, Hanson was fouled and made two free throws to give the Maroons a three-point edge, 59-56. The Wasps missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.

In the first half, the Maroons jumped out to a 10-point lead, 12-2, in the first 4:30. Hanson had 10 of those first 12 points, while Brittany Johnson opened the game's scoring on a bucket in the paint. On a Hanson bucket with just over eight minutes left in the half, the Maroons took their largest lead, 25-8. The Wasps were able to cut the lead to just 10 at the break.

In addition to her three offensive rebounds, Keller added two assists and a steal. Caitlyn Long scored seven points and Johnson six points. Jaleesa Osborne had five rebounds, while Erin Jenkins and Cindy McGraw four each.
