EMORY, VA--The Roanoke College women's basketball team ran its winning streak to three games and evened its overall record at 5-5 with an 82-67 victory over Emory & Henry College on Thursday evening. In addition to getting their fifth win, the Maroons improve to 2-4 in the Old Dominon Athletic Conference. Emory & Henry falls to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the ODAC.
The Maroons opened up a six-point lead at halftime, 39-33, and went on to outscore the host Wasps 43-34 in the second half of play. The Maroon defense limited Emory & Henry to just 30.1 percent from the field, 22-for-73, in the game including just 25.6 percent (10-for-39) in the second half. The Wasps also shot just 25.8 percent (8-for-31) from three-point range.
Roanoke, meanwhile, was able to connect on 44.9 percent (31-for-69) of its shots from the field, getting a season-high 82 points. The Maroons also took advantage of their chances from the free throw, making 17 of their 21 attempts.
Erin Hanson recorded her second double-double of the season, scoring 23 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
Cindy McGraw tallied 16 points, six rebounds, and four steals for RC, which got a game-best six assists from senior guard
Lindsay Reynolds.
Ashley Nesbit came off the bench to score eight points and grab six rebounds, while
Torri Bridge had four points, four rebounds, and three assists.
The Maroons take the upcoming weekend off before returning to game action on Tuesday, January 10th in a road game against the Generals of Washington & Lee University. The Maroons and Generals will get that game under way at 7:00pm in Lexington, VA. The Maroons will then return home two days later in a 7:00pm game against Guilford College.
