Chandra Forrester (Wytheville, VA/Rural Retreat) hit two free throws with no time left on the clock to give the Roanoke College women's basketball team a 47-46 victory at Washington & Lee on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, VA. The Maroons, who have won all 23 meetings in the series, improve to 13-5 on the season and 9-5 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Generals fall to 10-9 overall and 6-8 in league play.

With just seven seconds left on the clock, Washington & Lee's Emily Barker hit a pair of free throws to give W&L a 46-45 lead. The Maroons quickly brought the ball up court and called a timeout with four seconds left. The Maroons ran an out of bounds play. The ball was deflected out of bounds, leaving the Maroons just over two seconds left. Off the next in-bounds pass,
Lindsay Reynolds (Roanoke, VA/Cave Spring) took a shot that caromed off to the far side of the basket. There, Forrester collected the rebound, took the ball up, and in the process of shooting was fouled. As the official blew his whistle, time expired. After a lengthy discussion among the officials, Forrester was awarded two free throws, both of which she hit.
Those two shots capped a comeback which saw the Maroons trail by as many as seven points in the second half. The Maroon defense kept the Generals scoreless for a span of over seven minutes, allowing the visitors to take a 37-36 lead with 6:20 left in the game. Cindy McGraw (Lynchburg, VA/EC Glass) banked in a three-pointer with 56 seconds left in the game to give RC a 45-44 lead.
With just over 10 seconds to play, Washington & Lee's Amanda Kane missed a short jumper, but Barker collected the rebound and was fouled with seven seconds left.
The Maroons struggled from the field in each half, finishing the second with just seven field goals on 25 attempts. As a team, the Maroons shot just 30.8 percent from the field in the game. McGraw led the Maroons with 12 points, four coming in the second half, three on the late three-point field goal. Forrester finished with seven points, five from the free throw line, the final two with no time left on the clock.
Brittany Johnson (West Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) recorded a game-high four steals, all four coming in the first half of play.
The Maroons are back in action on Tuesday in a road game against the Eagles of Bridgewater College. The game between the Maroons and the Eagles begins at 7:00pm in Harrisonburg, VA.
