The Lead: The Roanoke golf team traveled to the Marine Corps base at Camp Lejeune to compete at the 52
nd annual Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate. The Maroons posted a 4-over par opening round to put themselves in a good spot. However, the second day would see windy conditions move in and the scores would suffer as RC posted a 304 and found themselves in 12
th out of 24 competing teams. Roanoke rallied on the final day with a 9-over, 297 and moved into the top-10 of the final standings.
How it Happened:
Round One:
- Roanoke recorded their best round of the spring with a 4-over par, 292 on the opening day of the three-day event.
- For the second consecutive tournament, freshman Andrew Garcia paced Roanoke with an opening round 71, 1-under par. Senior Palmer Cuny fired an even par 72, giving RC a pair in the top 20.
- Freshman Nick Crawford shot is collegiate best round of 74 with senior Sean Furlong and freshman Sam Dolan each carding a 75.
Round Two:
- Garcia finished the first two days at even par after shooting a 73. Crawford continued to shine with a 75.
- Playing in their final Camp Lejeune event, Furlong (76) and Cuny (80) rounded out the scoring for the Maroons.
Round Three:
- Cuny recorded his second even par round of the event with a 72 while Dolan rebounded with a 1-over par 73.
- Garcia and Crawford each finished with 76's as Roanoke posted the 6th best team score of the final round.
- Individually, Roanoke would place three in the top 50. Garcia was 19th while Cuny finished 43rd and Crawford finished at 49th.
Up Next: The Maroons will send two teams to Williamsburg for the 2025 Glenn Heath Shipbuilders Memorial tournament, April 15-16.
