The Lead: Sarah Fuchs earned all-conference honors with a runner-up finish in the hammer throw as the Maroons competed on the first day of the ODAC championship meet in Harrisonburg.
Highlights:
- Fuchs registered a personal-best mark of 43.48m to place second overall in the hammer throw, collecting the first All-ODAC citation of her career.
- Four Maroons scored in the 3,000m steeplechase. Savannah Reid placed fifth in 12:40.20, followed by Allie Gallaher (12:54.35) in sixth, Madeleine Rhyne (14:03.18) in seventh and Elizabeth McElfresh (14:37.17) in eighth.
- Rebecca Carr notched an eighth-place showing in the high jump, landing at 1.52m.
- Abby McGlothlin secured the eighth spot in the shot put with a distance of 10.88m.
- The Maroons snagged the third through fifth slots in the preliminary rounds of the 100m hurdles. Olivia Viers took third in 15.03 seconds, while Cammi Winston (15.07) came in fourth and Carr (15.29) finished fifth.
- A trio of Roanoke runners also advanced to the finals of the 400m. Lindsey Hobin led the way with a time of 59.58 seconds to finish third in the prelims, while Maryrose Molina-Shuman (59.76) came in fifth and Mae Kaufman (1:02.30) placed eighth.
- In the 100m prelims, Nalonda Henderson qualified for the finals with a fourth-place run of 12.52 seconds. Eleanor Hinckley also moved on by finishing seventh in 12.67 seconds.
- Roanoke currently sits in fifth place with 20 team points. Washington and Lee (72 points) holds the lead after day one, with 14 of the 20 scored events slated for Saturday.
