FOREST, Va. - Senior wrestler Mark Samuel and junior women's basketball player Alicea Farmer were named Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Athletes of the Week by the conference on Monday evening. 

Samuel was selected as the ODAC Lighter Weight Wrestler of the Week while Farmer earned Defensive Player of the Week. 

Samuel, ranked No. 1 in the nation at 141 pounds, won both of his matches Saturday at the Castleton (Vt.) tri-match. He earned a major decision against Nico Diaz from Stevens at 141 and followed up with a 20-5 technical fall win in 4:22 against Castleton. Diaz was ranked No. 14 in the nation by NWCA and third in region 2. 

Farmer helped women's basketball to a 70-62 win over NC Wesleyan as she posted 10 points, 10 rebounds, five steals, and two blocks. She led the Maroons in rebounds, steals, and blocks in the game. Farmer also tied a career high in steals, recording four of her five steals in the fourth quarter to help RC gain the edge over NCWU. 

This is the first weekly honor of the season for both Maroons.

Both the wrestling and women's basketball teams have the week off before getting back at it in December. Women's basketball competes next at Guilford on Dec. 3 while wrestling heads to the New Standard Invite on Dec. 5-6.
