Salem, Va. - Roanoke College women's basketball announced the addition of Kayla Maxson to the coaching staff as an assistant coach.  

Maxson joins the Maroons from Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa., where she was an assistant coach.  With the Warriors, she facilitated the defensive instructions that helped improve the team in defensive statistical categories such as opponent field goal percentage, points per game, rebounds per game, and steals per game.  

"I am thrilled to announce Kayla Maxson as my assistant coach at Roanoke College. She is driven and passionate about building a high-achieving culture within our program both on and off the court," said head coach Tessa Hampton. "I had the pleasure of coaching Kayla during her time at Shenandoah University, and I am excited to build upon the relationship we already share. She is hard-working and committed to the overall development of our student-athletes. I can't wait to embark on this journey with her." 

Maxson was a four-year member of the women's basketball team at Shenandoah, including being a part of the winningest class in program history. During her career at Shenandoah, the team went 66-31, won three consecutive ODAC championships, and received two NCAA championship bids.  

"I'm extremely excited about the opportunity to join a program with such a rich history of success, while also having the opportunity to work with Coach Tessa in continuing to build a strong tradition here at Roanoke," said Maxson.  

She earned her master's degree in sports & entertainment management from the University of South Carolina and her bachelor's degree in business administration from Shenandoah University.
