The Lead: The Roanoke College golf team had to make a change due to the hurricane that canceled the Glory Days Invitational, hosted by Shenandoah University. Hampden-Sydney stepped in and hosted a one day, 36-hole, Manor Fall Invitational in Farmville. RC sent a six-man B team to the event and finished fourth in the eight-team field that featured 42 golfers.
How it Happened:
Round One:
- Sophomore Sam Fansler paced the Maroons with an opening round, 2-over par, 74. Fellow sophomore Sean Hickey fired a four-over 76.
- Playing in his first collegiate event, freshman Andrew Garcia shot a 5-over par 77 while senior Jackson Gorman rounded out the first-round scoring with a 78.
Day Two:
- Junior Brett Chodos rebounded from round one to shot a 3-under par 69 to help lead the 10-stroke improvement in round two.
- Fansler and Garcia each carded a 3-over 75 while Hickey posted his second consecutive 76.
Up Next: Roanoke will break off into two teams next week. The A team will head to Georgia to compete at the West Pines Invitational hosted by Oglethorpe on October 7-8. During the same two days, a B team will travel to Wintergreen to play Stoney Creek in the Knights Invitational, hosted by Southern Virginia.
