The Basics:

The Lead: After opening the season with a top 5 effort at the Transylvania Invite, the Roanoke golf team sent a five-man team and three individuals to compete at the 2024 Kinder Williams Memorial Tournament in Harrisonburg. The two-day event was host by Bridgewater College and played at the Lakeview Golf Club. 18 teams and total field of 96 golfers would compete over the par 72, 6744-yard layout. The Maroons would finish runner-up after posting a two-day total of 597, one of only two teams to break 590.  
How it Happened:
 
Day One:

• Freshman Sam Dolan completed his third consecutive sub-par round with a 1-under 71. Senior Palmer Cuny fired an even par 72 as Roanoke would be in second place by just a single shot, behind Christopher Newport (25^th in the final NCAA DIII Rankings this past fall).
• Sophomore Sean Hickey, playing in his first tournament for the Maroons, was next at 73 while TJ Whelan and Sam Fansler tied at 74.
• Playing as individuals, senior Sean Furlong and freshman Dylan Lachaine each carded one over par 73s.

 
Day Two:

• Hickey shot an even par 72 to finish the event at 145 and tied for seventh. Whelan and Fansler matched Monday's 74 and finished in a tie for 15^th. Cuny rounded out the scoring with a 77.
• Lachaine followed up his 73 with a 74 and earned a top-10 finish. Will Miele shot an even par 72 and moved up the leaderboard to finish in that 15^th place tie.
• The Roanoke team was awarded the runner-up trophy while four members would bring home flags for finishing in the top 18 of the event. All in all, all eight Maroons would finish in the top 40 with seven in the top 25.

 
Up Next: Roanoke will send a B team to Winchester to compete at the 2024 Glory Days Invitational, hosted by Shenandoah University. The 36-hole event will all be played on Monday, September 30^th at the Winchester Country Club.
