Maroons Compete at Shenandoah Holiday Open

Event: Shenandoah Holiday Kickoff Open

The Lead: Olivia Viers won the 60m hurdles and three Maroons produced runner-up finishes at the Shenandoah Holiday Kickoff Open in Winchester.
 
Meet Highlights:
  • Viers paced Roanoke with a narrow victory over teammate Rebecca Carr in the 60m hurdles. Viers won by six-hundredths of a second at 9.351, with Carr clocking in at 9.357. Cammi Winston placed sixth in 9.79 seconds, and McKenna Riolo scored with an eighth-place finish (10.53).
  • Tasha Miller came in second in the pole vault, equaling her indoor career mark of 3.05m. That height is tied for fifth in Maroon history.
  • Four Maroons scored in the 5,000m. Savannah Reid was the runner-up with an indoor personal-record time of 20:26.35, followed by Sarah Kochanski in fifth (21:13.94), Alaina DeFelice in seventh (22:21.33) and Madeleine Rhyne in eighth (22:58.50).
  • Mae Kaufman finished fourth in the 400m with a time of 1:02.83. Nadira Cantey came in sixth in 1:04.24, and Maryrose Molina-Shuman notched a seventh-place mark of 1:04.56.
  • Sarah Fuchs placed fourth in the shot put with a personal-record distance of 11.19m. Abby McGlothlin slotted in eighth at 10.39m.
  • In the finals of the 60m, Nalonda Henderson came in fourth with a personal-best time of 8.01 seconds.
  • Kaufman logged a time of 27.20 seconds to place sixth in the 200m finals. Eleanor Hinckley (27.36) came in seventh.
  • Cammi Winston scored for the Maroons in the triple jump, finishing seventh with a distance of 9.72m.
  • Fuchs was the eighth-place finisher in the weight throw at 12.51m.
  • Viers also recorded an eighth-place mark in the long jump at 4.69m.
  • Roanoke logged 75 points to tie for fourth in the team scoring with the host Hornets. Dickinson was the event champion with 131 markers.
Head Coach Derek Workman: "We competed really well today, on the track and in the field. This was a great opening meet for us, and a great way to head into break with some momentum!"
 
Up Next: The Maroons return to action with their first home event of the season, the Finn Pincus Invitational, on Jan. 17-18.
