The Lead: For the first time, the Roanoke College golf program split their roster and competed in two tournaments during the same days. A five-man team traveled to Georgia to compete in the West Pines Invitational hosted by Oglethorpe. Back in Virginia, RC sent six individuals to compete at the 2024 Knights Invitational hosted by Southern Virginia. Roanoke would finish 14
th in a field of 20 teams that featured five teams of the 2024 NCAA DIII National Tournament field while a pair of golfers would finish in the top 10 of the Knights Invite at Stoney Creek.
How it Happened at West Pines:
Round One:
Round Two:
- The first day of competition would feature 36 holes.
- Sophomore Will Miele fired a 2-over par 73 with Furlong posting a 3-over 73. Whelan posted his second consecutive round of 76.
Round Three:
- Miele and Cuny each carded a 76 while freshman Sam Dolan moved up six spots in the individual standings with a 78.
How it Happened at Stoney Creek:
Round One:
- Sophomore Sean Hickey found himself in a tie for third after shooting an opening round 74 (2-over par). Fellow sophomore Sam Fansler recorded a 78 with freshman Andrew Garcia carding a 79.
Round Two:
- Garcia moved up the leader board to finish third after shooting a 1-under par 71. Hickey made it a pair in the top 10 with a sixth-place finish after shooting a 77.
- Fansler moved up two spots after a second round 77 and Brett Chodos improved two shots when he recorded an 8-over par, 80.
Up Next: Roanoke will send a team to Maryland to compete at the Alvernia Invitational at Bulle Rock on October 15-16.
