The Lead: For the final time in 2024, the Roanoke golf team took the course when they played at the O'Briant-Jensen in Greensboro, N.C. The Maroons entered a field of 21 teams, including 13 of the top 50, and nine of the top 15 teams in the country. RC struggled on day one, falling eight spots on the day's final five holes. An early, cold, tee time awaited Roanoke on Day two as the team would finish the event in 19
th place.
How it Happened:
Round One:
- Palmer Cuny led the Maroons on the first day with a 5-over par 76. Sophomore Sean Hickey shot a 2-over 37 on his back nine to card a 78.
- TJ Whelan and Will Miele each shot identical 82's to round out the scoring for Roanoke.
Round Two:
- Cuny got off to a slow start but the junior rallied to shoot even par over his final 13 holes to soot a 78. Matching his fellow senior, Whelan improved four strokes to give RC a pair of 78's.
- Hickey shot an 82 with senior Sean Furlong rounding out the day two scoring.
Next for the Maroons: Roanoke will resume the 2024-25 campaign when they travel to Georgia to compete at the 32-team Savannah Open hosted by Berry College.
