The Lead: Will Black collected four hits as Roanoke topped Ferrum 9-5 on Tuesday afternoon in Salem.
How it Happened
- Black was 4-for-5 on the day with three RBI and two runs scored. Dan Brodeur was 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored for the Maroons. Sean Guida and Collier Donald each had a pair of hits in the win as well for RC.
- Sal Trancucci tossed 2.1 innings of relief to improve to 2-0 on the season. He allowed three hits and one run. John Ruhlman picked up the three inning save, allowing one hit and striking out two.
- Roanoke took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Black scored on a wild pitch. Ferrum then scored single runs in the second and third innings to go out in front 2-1.
- In the RC third inning, back-to-back doubles by Brodeur and Cody Shell knotted the game at 2-2. Black then singled to score Shell and give RC a 3-2 lead. After Guida doubled to put runners on second and third, Drew Mikula singled to plate them both and make it a 5-2 game.
- Ferrum got a pair of runs back in the fourth inning, scoring two unearned runs following a Lane Deaver RBI single that made it a 5-4 game.
- Ferrum tied the game at 5-5 in the fifth inning, but the Maroons would take the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth behind an RBI single from Donald and capitalizing on a throwing error by the Panthers and go up 7-5.
- Black had RBI hits in the sixth and eighth innings to account for the final two run for the Maroons.
