SALEM, Va.--- Roanoke dropped a close contest to ODAC opponent Guilford College, 3-2 on Tuesday night at Kiwanis Field. The Maroons fell to 8-14, 0-8 in the ODAC, while the Quakers improved to 10-15, 4-4 in conference play.

The Quakers were the first to get on the scoreboard in the third inning when D.J. Phillips RBI single drove home Dan Ditota from second to take the early advantage. 

Roanoke was quick to respond in the fourth inning to knot up the score at one-apiece when Jacob McMillan (Vinton, VA, William Byrd) was able to send Robbie Scott (Mt. Kisco, NY, Fox Lane) home with a shot to right center giving him his first hit of the game.

Guilford was able to take the lead once again in the seventh inning when a fielding error allowed Ditota to cross home plate for the second time in the game.

In the bottom-half of that inning, Nick Sburlati's (Blacksburg, VA, Blacksburg) clutch solo-homer knotted up the score at 2-2. The game wasn't tied long, as Will Cornelius homered in the top of the eighth to seal it for the Quakers.

Scott, McMillan, and Sburlati paced the way for the Maroons with two hits each, including an RBI from both McMillian and Sburalti.

Mark Wimmer (Salem, VA, Salem) (2-2) pitched a solid game for the Maroons, striking out six batters while scattering eight hits. Michael Haslam (Collegeville, PA, Springfield) came in for relief in the top of the eighth to allow only one hit in the final two innings.   

The Maroons get a chance to redeem themselves on Saturday, March 26^th against ODAC-foe Bridgewater College. Game time is set to start at noon held at Kiwanis Field.
