Maryville Escapes Roanoke with 6-5 Win in Extra Innings

SALEM, Va. --- Maryville scored an unearned run in the 10th inning and held on to win, 6-5 over Roanoke at Lewis Gale Field Monday evening. The loss drops the Maroons to 5-7 on the season while the Scots improved to 12-4.
 
Roanoke, which is now 0-6 against Tennessee schools, are now 0-4 against GSAC competition. The Maroons had over 10 hits for the third-straight game, six in the last nine games.
 
John Terlesky (Charlottesville, VA , Albermarle)started the game and finished with a career-best seven strikeouts in three innings of work. Mark Wimmer (Salem, VA, Salem)came in relief and kept the momentum going, striking out two with one walk and one run in four innings. Joseph Peery (Troy, VA, Monticello)(0-1) took the loss for the Maroons.
 
Myles Cordell opened the scoring in the top of the first with a solo home run over the left field wall to take the one-run lead. The Maroons scored three in the second to take the 3-1 lead. Caylen Baire (St. Albans, WV, St. Albans)drove in Jay Laramore (Pfafftown, NC, Guilford), followed by two runs that were scored off a throwing error to help give Roanoke the early advantage.
 
Cordell led off the third with his second hit of the game. He was brought home off of Kyle Cyprysiak's triple down the right field line which scored two Maryville runs to tie the game at 3-3.
 
Graham Thacker (Forest, VA, Jefferson Forest)singled to start the bottom half of the inning and was brought home thanks to Barrett Henderson (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spirng)single to centerfield to regain the lead, 4-3.
 
Cordell, who hit 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs, smashed his second homer over left center to tie the contest once again, 5-5, in the fifth.
 
Back-to-Back doubles helped give Roanoke a 5-4 lead in the seventh. Alan Moore (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring)doubled down the left field line and was brought home after Laramore's hit a double on the right field line to give his team a one-run lead.
 
The lead evaporated and was eventually lost, as the Scots scored in both the eighth and 10th innings to win their 12th game of the season.
 
Laramore went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI with a run scored. Noah Davidson (Salem, VA, Salem)finished 3-for-5 for his fourth multi-hit game of the season. C.J. Poad (Clinton, MD, Riverdale Baptist)had two singles and scored his first run of the season.
 
The men return to action tomorrow, going against ODAC-foe, Washington & Lee. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Lewis Gale Field.
