The women's lacrosse team defeated Lynchburg, 15-4 at Donald J. Kerr Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Maroons improved to 5-6, 3-2 in the ODAC. The Hornets dropped to 6-5, 2-4 in ODAC play.
The Maroons are 22-15 all-time vs. Lynchburg including six of the last eight meetings. After a five-game skid, the women have won their last two games.
Roanoke out shot Lynchburg, 33-19 and had a 41-27 advantage in groundballs. The Maroons were successful in 18 of 27 clear attempts while Lynchburg went 13-of-18.
The Maroons scored the first nine goals of the game before Lynchburg got on the board with four minutes remaining in the first half.
The Maroons would score five unanswered goals to secure its second-straight win, giving them a 13-goal advantage, 14-1 with 12 minutes remaining. Lynchburg scored the next three goals to close it to within 10, 14-4.
Amanda Hutchins scored four goals in the win, increasing her career total to 106, one away from 11
th on the all-time list. Her 122 career points rank her 20
th in scoring at Roanoke.
Gina Valles finished the night with three goals and four assists to pace the Maroons. She leads the team in scoring (45), goals (34) and assists with 11 after tonight's game.
Katlyn Scarlett had 11 saves for the Maroons. Ashley Stern had six saves for the Hornets. Patty Sheahan netted three goals for Lynchburg.
The Maroons will host Frostburg State on Friday, April 4. Roanoke holds a 6-4 record in the series but has lost the last three meetings. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
