Virginia Beach, Va. --- The women's lacrosse team defeated Virginia Wesleyan, 15-10 in ODAC action on Saturday evening. The win improved the Maroons to 8-7, 4-2 in the ODAC. The Marlins dropped to 10-4, 6-1 in the ODAC.

The Maroons were 5-of-8 on free position shots, 16-of-18 on clear attempts and outshot the Marlins, 32-29 in a big ODAC win which was the first conference loss of the season for VWC.

The Maroons were in control early and scored often, led by Brooks Laufman with three first half goals and Gina Valles with two of her own to give the Maroons a 7-2 advantage at the half.

Roanoke's offensive attack on the Marlins continued in the second half as they scored seven of the first 11 goals to give them a comfortable, 15-6 lead with 10 minutes remaining to put the game away.

Valles led the Maroons with six goals and one assist to pace the Maroons. She also had a team-high six groundballs and was 2-of-2 in draw controls. Laufman finished with four goals and one assist. Ella Wade and Amanda Hutchins added two goals for the Maroons.

Katlyn Scarlett ended up with 10 saves for Roanoke. Ashley Sippel had 13 for the Marlins.

The women will travel Host Guilford on Friday, April 18 on Senior Night in the final game of the regular season. They will honor Laura Bachman, Cantey Bailey and Amanda Hutchins before the game. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
