The Roanoke College baseball team fell to Greensboro College, 7-5 in 10 innings at Salem Memorial Stadium on Wednesday evening. The men dropped to 9-13 on the season while the Pride improved their record to 19-10.
The Maroons, who dropped their season-opener to the Pride, 17-9 back in February, showed their improvements since that game, forcing extra innings. They even erased a three-run deficit to grab the lead, 5-4 heading into the eighth inning. Greensboro scored in the top of the eighth and forced the extra inning when Donaldson hit a two-run homer over the left field wall for the eventual game-winning runs.
Graham Thacker led the Maroons as he went 3-for-5 with one run.
Matt Vess was 1-for-3 with two runs batted in.
Alan Moore had a double and a run scored while
Noah Davidson and
Dan Fallen each contributed a base hit each. Moore has 22 doubles for his career which is fourth all-time.
Brennan Thacker had a run and a triple on the evening, which moved him into third all-time in career triples with seven, three away from the school-record. He is two hits away from passing
Robbie Hoopes '06 for second all-time. Thacker is only three runs away from holding the school-record in that category. Thacker recently broke the school-record in stolen bases and walks.
The men return to ODAC play as they travel to Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday in doubleheader action. The Maroons are 1-10 all-time vs. the Marlins, who sit at 15-8-1 on the season and 5-3 in the ODAC. Roanoke defeated VWC, 3-1 last season for their first win in the series. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
