Three Womenâ?' Basketball Players earn All-ODAC Honors

Salem, Va. --- The ODAC office has announced the All-ODAC honors last evening at the Salem Civic Center.  Erin Hanson was named first-team honors while Torri Bridge and Caitlyn Long were named honorable mention. It was the most players on the all-conference team for the Maroons since the 2001-02 season. All three players have excelled in their respective fall sports seasons, as two have earned all-conference this past fall.

Hanson, a four-year All-ODAC player, was named first-team for the third season in a row. She was named ODAC Rookie of the Year, which was the first time a Maroon garnered this award. As a sophomore and junior, Hanson was named D3Hoops First-Team All-South Region. The 2007 ODAC Player of the Year, the Blacksburg High School product was voted WBCA All-America honors. She led the Maroons in scoring, rebounding and free-throws made in all four seasons. She is averaging 13.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 43% from the floor, 441.2% from three-point range and 82.4% from the line. She has led the team in scoring 11 times and rebounding 12 times in only 18 games played. Hanson was a two-sport athlete at Roanoke, as starting goalkeeper over the past three seasons, including an All-ODAC selection this season to compliment an 18-4-1 season, an ODAC Runner-Up finish and the school's second NCAA Tournament berth.

Bridge, a two year starter, has started in all 25 games played this season and has not missed a start in 52 games. This is the first ODAC honor for Bridge in basketball as she was named All-ODAC for the past two seasons in volleyball. In volleyball, the Stuarts Draft product finished her career at Roanoke second in career assists and fourth in ODAC history as well. Bridge has improved her stats in every category this season, including career-bests in scoring (17 twice), rebounding (7 five times), steals (5) and three-pointers with four. She leads the Maroons in assists (91) and free-throw percentage (85.7) while averaging 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.

Long, a sophomore guard is the first Maroon underclassmen to be selected to the All-ODAC team since Hanson's sophomore year in 2005-06. The Roanoke native led the team in three-pointers made (44) and in field goals made (94) and is among the ODAC leaders in 3PM and percentage (38.6). The Cave Spring product is also a two-sport athlete, joining Bridge on the Volleyball court where she broke her own school-record in digs and is currently third in career digs. She is second on the team in scoring (11 ppg), steals (35), third in free-throws made (43) in addition to 3.2 rebounds per game. She pulled down a career-high 10 boards vs. Guilford (2/16). She led the team in scoring seven times and steals six times this season.

The women will battle Lynchburg in the ODAC Quarterfinals starting at 3 p.m. following the Virginia Wesleyan/Emory & Henry game at 1 p.m.
