Game notes vs. Randolph/Hollins

Roanoke will put their undefeated record to the test this weekend against the Wildcats of Randolph College this evening and Hollins on Saturday. The Maroons are 5-0, 2-0 in the ODAC while the Wildcats are 0-3, 0-1 in the ODAC. Hollins is currently 0-5, 0-1 in the conference.
 
Series Information vs. Randolph
Roanoke holds a 51-4 all-time series lead over the Wildcats since starting the series in 1983. Randolph won their third game in six meetings last year, 67-64. Before 2003, the Maroons were 40-1, with their only loss to that point in 1997-98. The Maroons swept the Wildcats last season, with both wins by more than 20 points. The Maroons cruised past Randolph, 79-39 at home in the first meeting of last season and 72-49 on Feb. 21.
 
Last Meeting – Feb. 23, 2008
Roanoke defeated Randolph College, 72-49 on Saturday afternoon in both team's regular season finale. The Maroons got all they could handle from the Wildcats, going into halftime with the score tied at 21-all. Randolph even held a one-point lead, 33-32 with 13 minutes to play until the Maroons erupted with a 17-0 run over the next five minutes to put the game away.
 
Roanoke outscored Randolph, 50-18 in the second half to seal their 15th victory. The win marks the 25th 15-win season in Roanoke's storied 32-years of basketball. The women also finished the season winning 10 of their final 13 games.
 
Jaleesa Osborne tied a career-high 18 points in addition to six assists and three steals, which puts her at 10th in the single-season steals list (70). Torri Bridge finished with 11 points and four assists. The 91 assists on the season is the most by a Maroon since the 2002-03 season. Caitlyn Long had nine points and six rebounds while junior Erin Jenkins scored 11 points, dished out three assists and totaled three steals on her birthday.
 
Freshman Jordan Gholson had three blocked shots, which tied the school's single-season blocks record with 45 on the year with at least one more game to break the record. The women won 13 conference games, the most since 2002-03 and the 16th time since joining the ODAC.
 
Series Information vs. Hollins
The Maroons are 58-2 all-time against Hollins. The 58 wins are tied with Lynchburg for the most wins against any team in program history. The women have claimed the last 10 meetings and scored over 100 poitns in the last meeting for the third time in the series. The 78-point win was the largest margin against a team in school-history.
 
Last Meeting – Feb. 8, 2008
The women's basketball team defeated Hollins University, 102-24 at the Bast Center on Friday evening. The Maroons improved to 11-8 overall and a 9-5 mark in ODAC play. Hollins dropped to 0-19, 0-15 in the ODAC.
 
The point total and the scoring margin are both season-highs for Roanoke. It was also the seventh win out of the last eight games for the Maroons, with their only loss to #12 Randolph-Macon, 60-58 on the road last weekend.
 
Hollins stayed within five, 10-5 after a three-pointer by Tamara Phillips with 14-minutes in the first half. From that point, the Maroons closed the half on a 45-3 run to head into the half with a 55-8 score. Senior Erin Hanson led all scorers with 14 first half points.
 
The Maroons blistered the nets from beyond the arc, shooting 61-percent in the first half. Sophomore Lindsay Skaff scored nine points in the half hitting all three of her three-pointers attempted.
The Maroons shot 53-percent from the floor, holding Hollins to 26-percent, holding their opponent to a season-low 24 points.
 
Roanoke out rebounded Hollins 42-25, outscored them 63-3 off turnovers, 42-6 in the paint, 13-2 second chance points, 16-0 off fast break points and 58-2 off the bench. It was the sixth time in the last eight games that the Maroons have eclipsed over 40 rebounds.
 
Roanoke had season-highs in steals (25), assists (28), three-pointers made (13), three-point percentage (59.1%), field goals made (37) and field goal percentage (52.9%). They placed in points (T-8th), assists (5th) and steals (4th) for single-game teams records.
 
Skaff ended up with a career-highs of 16 points, four three-pointers, three rebounds and dished out five assists. Hanson finished with a game-high 18 points, five rebounds and three steals. Jenkins scored 12 points as she shot 5-of-7 from the floor.
 
Sydney Webb had career-highs of nine points and three treys. Virginia Anne Hagood dished out a career-best five assists while scoring eight points and pulled down four rebounds. Jordan Gholson finished with 10 points, five boards and a career-high six steals.
 
About the Maroons
Roanoke has been dominating their opponents this season with an average win margin of 23.8 per game. As a team they are averaging 14 assists, 4.6 blocks and 10.4 steals per game. Jaleesa Osborne and Jordan Gholson are leading the team in scoring with both averaging over 11 points per game. Osborne is also leading the team in steals and field goals made while Gholson has 6.4 rebounds and 11 blocked shots to lead Roanoke.
 
Jenkins fares well against the Wildcats
Jenkins is a tri-captain of this year's squad... she has played in 61 games, starting six over the last two seasons... a long-range threat, Jenkins has connected on 47 three-pointers for her career... she was the MVP of the Guilford Tip-Off Classic Nov. 22 after scoring a career-high 15 points against SUNY-Purchase in a 74-32 win... her best games have come against Randolph College, scoring 44 points and pulling down 15 rebounds in six games against the Wildcats.
 
Approaching History
With two more wins, Roanoke will own the best start (7-0) in school-history. They are currently 5-0 and are tied with the 1987-88 squad for the second-best start. The seven-game win-streak will be the longest since the 2005-06 season.
