LYNCHBURG, VA--The Roanoke College women's lacrosse team got goals from eight different players in a 10-6 road win over Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Lynchburg College on Tuesday. The Maroons, who have won four of the last six games against the Hornets, improve to 7-2 overall in 2007, 2-2 in the ODAC. Lynchburg is now 5-6, 3-2 in the league.

The teams traded goals through the first 20 minutes of the game, but Roanoke sophomore Kayla Moore and junior Amanda Hutchins scored back-to-back goals to give the Maroons a 5-3 lead with 4:16 left in the first half. The Hornets were able to get within a goal late in the first half, but with just 32 seconds left in the opening 30 minutes, Rachel Hutchinson scored on a Chelsea Rankin pass and the Maroons led 6-4 at the break.

The Maroons blew the game open in the second half, scoring the first four goals to take a 10-4 lead with 12:09 left. Moore opened that scoring and then freshman Brooks Laufman scored consecutive goals and the Maroons led by six. The Hornets got two goals with less than 10 minutes to play in the game.

Moore and Laufman were the only Maroons with multiple goals, while Rankin had a goal and an assist. The Maroons caused 10 turnovers by the Hornets in the contest, two each by Rankin and sophomore Ella Wade. Wade also had five groundballs, second only to goalie Katlyn Scarlett who had six and also made nine saves.

The Maroons travel to Greensboro on Saturday for another conference game, that against the Quakers of Guilford College. The game begins at 3:30pm.
