MAROONS STRIKE THREE TIMES IN NINTH IN 10-9 VICTORY

EMORY, VA-Trailing 9-7 heading into the top of the ninth inning, the Roanoke College baseball team struck threes times to pull out a 10-9 win at Emory & Henry College on Tuesday. The Maroons improve to 6-15 overall this year, 5-3 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Emory & Henry, which is swept by Roanoke for the third year in a row, falls to 4-18, 2-8 in the league.

The Maroons gave up three runs in the bottom of the eighth and found themselves behind 9-7 in the ninth. With one out, Shane Spikes got the Maroon rally going with a double to right center. Brennan Thacker followed with a walk and a batter later Alan Moore tied the score with his third hit of the game, a double to the gap in right. Paul Johnson pinch-ran for Moore and would come around to score the winning run on Roanoke's third double of the inning, this one from Nate Unroe.

Joseph Johannes, who pitched the final four innings for the Maroons, got the final two batters of the game to groundout to short to give the Maroons the win. Johannes got his first win of the season, allowing two earned runs on five hits. Jake Furry had a bases loaded double in the fifth inning for the Maroons and finished the game with two hits and three RBIs. Clint Zimmerman also had three runs batted in for Roanoke, two coming on a homerun in the sixth.

The Maroons host Greensboro College in a double-header on Thursday. The first pitch of the first game is scheduled for 12:00pm at Kiwanis Field in Salem, VA.
