Offensive explosion in game two earns RC series split

RADFORD, Va. - The Roanoke College baseball team utilized a 12-run second inning in game two to pick up the series split against Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday. 

Game 1 Information 
Virginia Wesleyan 5, Roanoke 4 
Records: Virginia Wesleyan (20-15, 10-9), Roanoke (22-16, 8-11) 
Location: Radford, Va. (Williams Field at Carter Memorial Stadium) 

Game 1 Notes and Notables 

  • The Marlins took a 3-0 lead after the first inning. While RC answered back with runs every time VWU scored, they couldn't find a way to bring the game back to level. 

  • Michael Hetzel was the leading batter for the Maroons, recording two RBIs on three hits which included a home run. 

  • Tyler Galloway also had a trio of hits, driving in a run in the process.

Game 2 Notes and Notables 

  • Donaho paced Roanoke in the game as he went 4-5 with four RBIs and four runs. 

  • Prince put up three hits and accounted for four runs while driving in two. 

  • Jack Fehlner rounded out the RC players with multi-hit games as he tallied two and added a pair of runs and RBIs. 

  • Donaho, Hetzel, and Giordano all went yard in the contest. Hetzel homered in the first inning while Donaho and Giordano went back to back in the second inning. 

  • Giordano is now tied with teammate Laim Murphy for eighth in career home runs in the program records. 

  • Thomas Burgess picked up his fourth win of the season after going four innings for the Maroons on the mound. 

Up Next 
RC gets ready to take on the Opening Round of the ODAC playoffs next weekend (May 1-3). They will be on the road but await the official announcement of their opponent for the best of three series.
