SALEM, VA--The Roanoke College field hockey team got three goals and an assist from junior Leeanne and two goals and two assists from junior
Liz Hudson in a 7-2 home win over Shenandoah on Sunday afternoon in Salem, VA. The win gives the Maroons a 1-8 overall record and three straight wins over the Hornets. Shenandoah falls to 2-5 on the 2006 season.
The Maroons scored four times in the first half of play, three of those scores coming off of Clark's stick. The first came just over six minutes into the game, tapping in a Hudson crossing pass. Freshman
Emily Huston gave the Maroons a 2-0 lead 20 minutes into the contest, the first of three Roanoke goals in less than six minutes. Clark got her second goal on a penalty stroke and third on another Hudson assist.
Clark returned the favor to Hudson to start the scoring in the second half, sending a short pass off the end line. Hudson had an easy shot to score her first goal of the season. Hudson scored a second time in the half, finishing a pass from
Kelly Miller on a Maroon penalty corner. Senior
Lindsey Crosby then capped Roanoke's scoring redirecting a shot from Huston, her third of the season.
The Maroons outshot the Hornets 27-9 on the day. The Maroon defense held the Hornets to just two shots in the first half and did not force starting goalie
Lindsey Paz to make a save. In the second half, freshman
Ryan O'Connor stopped the first two shots she faced on goal.
The Maroons are back in action on Wednesday afternoon in a home contest against the Generals of Washington & Lee University. That game begins at 4:30.
